I made a tumblr? And got a job. A real one.

Team, I've just made a tumblr because Mae has really magical powers of persuasion. She's a champ and I love her. You can find me just at Nancy Raygun on that device, should be a good time! But ok, on the updates side!

Things are going well in Sewing Landia. I've got one wedding dress almost totally done and another one in the sketch/draping phase for a lovely client of mine who is finally engaged. Here's a couple pictures of the super first phase, I'll get some of the sketch for everybody real soon. And yeah, I may or may not be using a blue expo marker for my draping, so far it's working out just fine! :)

On a more professional note, I've got a job in Rhode Island this summer, what up! A lovely little place called Theatre by the Sea decided that I was a halfway decent enough stitcher to pay for me to drive up there for a couple months, house me and actually give me money to put together clothes for them. Can we talk about how this theatre has a private beach? And it's super cute? Annnnnnd I'm going to be three hours away from both one of my favorite people in the world as well as NYC. I cannot even begin to tell you how excited I am about this. Everyone please keep your fingers crossed that I don't fail miserably and I actually do a great job and make lots of awesome costumes. Which I'll be sharing pictures of whenever they happen.

That's pretty much all I've got at the moment, team, y'all stay fantastic and I'll keep you posted on things as they go down.

WHOA NOW

I've just learned something awesome at work, team. On the 27th of October, the Terminus building in Buckhead is hosting an event. Basically, it's a silent auction and costume contest type thing (with celebrity judges that I don't know the identity of...) with all the proceeds going to benefit single moms who are serving overseas. The money raised is gonna be used for super nice things like helping pay for airfare and setting up webcams and things so families can stay in touch. I also heard something about Navy Seals repelling down from the top of the building? Which is super freaking tall, so that'll be a sight in and of itself. But one of the best parts is that apparently everyone at the restaurant is supposed to dress up. Dress code for that evening will be political, military inspired or PINUP. Guess which train this costumer is jumping on. This will be such fun research, I gotta find a great polka dot print somewhere. If anybody has suggestions, you just send them my way!

On a related note, my top went over quite well and now I have to make a top for one girl and a dress for another. This is thought one for Natalie's dress... I'm thinking plum and a kind of bright copper type... thing? We'll see. I just know there has to be buttons. Lots of buttons. Maybe something a bit like this?

This is what happens when we have a slow Saturday at work. Good times. But that's all for this evening, internets, I'll be digging through my fabric basket to see if there's anything pinup worthy and I'll totally be putting up some of the better research I come up with. Y'all are great, don't forget.

PS: Sorry the sound's all messed up in the video that I posted yesterday! I need someone tech savvy to help me figure out how to make my webcam not be a punk. :)

That's not a moon!

Hey team! I figured the best way to kick off the blog would be to post this totally kick awesome Q&A that I had the privilege of doing with the wonderful Laura Laing from Math for Grownups. Laura does posts on practical math that people actually use in their day to day lives. Most of us don't really use the bizarre equations we had to play with in school, but being able to add fractions in your head can really be a leg up in a lot of situations. Unfortunately, I have to do all kinds of math on the regular to make the fancy things I love to play with, so give the post a read and let me know what you think!

In terms of crafty news, I definitely made myself a new shirt to wear to work this evening. I realized the other day that I've been rotating between the same couple outfits at the restaurant and that's just not ok when one claims to make clothes. So I pulled out a couple yards of discount fabric that I bought literally last year (because we all know I can't resist the pull of anything paisley and on sale) and I made kind of a girlish twist on the classic poet shirt. My version is off the shoulder on both sides and has giant billowy sleeves that will most certainly get in the way of just about everything. I might love it just a little bit. I'll get somebody to take pictures during my next shift and get them up here so you can all see it.

That's all for tonight, Pretty Roommate and I are going to watch Snatch and order a pizza. We've got being grownups on lock. At the behest of a friend I'm going to try and have regular video posts as well, so we'll have that to look forward to. Until next time!
